Everything You Need to Know About UAE Gratuity & Visa Fines

About UAE Gratuity (MOHRE Rules)

The "End of Service Gratuity" is a monetary benefit mandated by the UAE Labor Law for foreign employees. It acts as a thank-you for your service. Under the 2026 regulations, almost all employment contracts are classified as "Limited Contracts".

  • Eligibility: You must complete at least 1 year of continuous service.
  • Under 5 Years: Calculated as 21 days of basic salary for every year.
  • Over 5 Years: Calculated as 30 days of basic salary for each additional year.

Note: The total gratuity cannot exceed the equivalent of two years' total salary.

Understanding Visa Fines (ICP & GDRFA)

Staying in the UAE after your visa expiration date leads to Dubai overstay penalties. The Federal Authority (ICP) has standardized these fines to simplify the process.

The Current Standard Fine: 50 AED per day

This applies to tourists, visit visa holders, and residents after their grace period ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Example Calculations

Example 1: 3 years of service, 10,000 AED basic salary

Daily rate: 10,000 / 30 = 333.33 AED
21 days × 333.33 AED × 3 years = 21,000 AED (Gratuity Pay)

Example 2: 15 days of visa overstay

15 days × 50 AED/day = 750 AED fine

How is daily wage calculated for gratuity?

Your daily wage is your Basic Salary divided by 30. Allowances (housing, transport, utilities) are NOT included in this calculation.

Does unpaid leave affect my gratuity?

Yes. According to MOHRE gratuity rules, any days of unpaid leave (absence without pay) are deducted from your total service period before the calculation is made.

How can I pay my visa fines in Dubai?

Fines can be paid at Amer centers, typing centers, or online via the ICP or GDRFA websites and apps. It is best to clear fines before arriving at the airport to avoid delays.

Is this calculator updated for 2026 rules?

Yes, our tool uses the official UAE rates: AED 200 for the first day of overstay plus AED 100 for each subsequent day, and the 21/30 day split for gratuity — both aligned with current UAE regulations.

How These Calculators Work

The Gratuity Calculator uses the official formula from UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. You enter your basic salary and your start and end dates — the tool handles the rest. It applies 21 days per year for the first 5 years and 30 days per year for anything beyond that, and caps the total at 2 years' salary as required by law.

One thing to be careful about: enter your basic salary only, not your total package. Housing allowance, transport, and other components are excluded from gratuity calculations. If you're not sure what your basic salary is, check your payslip or employment contract — it's always listed separately.

The Visa Fine Calculator uses GDRFA's current rates: AED 200 for the first day of overstay, then AED 100 for each day after that. Additional service fees may apply when you pay in person at an Amer centre, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than an exact figure.

Who Uses This Site

Most people find this site when they're about to resign or when they've just been told their contract is ending. They want to know: what am I actually entitled to?

HR managers also use it to double-check their own calculations before processing final settlements. And new arrivals use the guides to understand their contracts before signing.

If you fall into any of these categories — you're in the right place. The calculators are free, require no sign-up, and your data never leaves your browser.
